Illinois banned synthetic marijuana in 2016, this year the newest drug to be targeted is synthetic heroin. State Senator Kyle McCarter sponsored the synthetic marijuana ban, and is also behind Senate Bill 702—which is targets synthetic heroin.
McCarter says like the synthetic marijuana law, the new proposal would ban the imitation heroin by outlawing it’s base chemical structure. Senate Bill 702 received unanimous approval by the Senate Criminal Law Committee on Wednesday and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
