Opening statements in the trial of a Vandalia man charged with three counts of child pornography are set for this morning in Fayette County Court. Jury selection for the trial of 56-year old William Frakes began Monday morning and went into the early afternoon before selection was complete and jury instructions were given. The matter was then wrapped up for the day with opening statements set to start first thing this morning. Frakes is charged with two counts of child pornography for allegedly obtaining photographs of a sadistic nature depicting a victim reasonably known to be under the age of 13, both Class X felonies, as well as one count of child pornography for allegedly possessing a photograph depicting a victim reasonably known to be under the age of 13, a Class 2 felony. Opening statements will begin at 9am this morning with witnesses and evidence expected to begin being presented today as well.
