(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Board of Education is suing Governor Rauner and the Illinois Board of Education over the way the state funds public education. The lawsuit filed yesterday on behalf of five minority families from Chicago Public Schools accuses the state of violating the civil rights of their children by giving city schools less funding than other districts. The suit claims Chicago’s mostly-minority student population is treated like second-class children as compared to predominantly white students across Illinois.
