Despite leading for the majority of the game, the Vandals suffered a tough 57-50 loss in double overtime at Pana Tuesday night. After getting out to a quick 9-0 lead, the Vandals held a 16-12 lead at the end of the 1st and led 24-18 at halftime. Turnovers plagued the Vandals in the third and Pana pulled within a point of the Vandals who then saw their lead down to three, 36-33 at the end of the 3rd. Pana took the lead 41-40 in the fourth before a Kelly Jones free throw with 42.7 seconds left in the game would tie it up at 41-41. However, Jones’ second free throw would not fall and the Vandals would then get a stop as a forced Pana shot from the elbow fell short. In the first overtime period, the Vandals got on the board first on baskets by Jones and Nathan Casey to give the Vandals a 45-41 lead. Pana would hit a three and then make two free throws to pull ahead 46-45. Nathan Casey would then hit a basket and be fouled and complete the three-point play to regain the Vandal lead, 48-46, with 12.9 seconds remaining. Pana’s Nick McMillen would then force a double overtime with a made shot from the elbow. In the second overtime period, Pana would then hit one basket and go 7 of 10 from the free throw line holding the Vandals to just two free throws to close out the 57-50 win. Nathan Casey would finish with 23 points and 9 rebounds while Blake Morrison had 11 pints and Garett McNary tallied 10 points for the Vandals. The Vandals are now 16-9 on the season and will be back at home to take on Staunton on Friday.
