(Springfield, IL) — Illinois‘ prison commission is suggesting new laws and a new way of thinking to focus on rehabilitation and not simply locking people away. Governor Rauner’s Commission on Criminal Justice and Sentencing Reform delivered 13 new recommendations yesterday. The report is the latest in the effort to shrink the number of people behind bars. One of the more interesting recommendations is a change in sentencing laws that focuses on what inmates will do when they are finished serving their time.
