(Istanbul) — A manhunt is underway for a gunman who killed 39 people and injured dozens more in an attack on a Turkish nightclub early Sunday. Turkish officials are calling the attack and act of terror. At least 69 people were wounded when a gunman reportedly dressed as Santa Claus opened fire early Sunday in the Reina nightclub in Istanbul. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the attack was intended to create chaos.

(Shyrokine, Ukraine) — Senator John McCain is at odds with President-elect Trump’s softer stance on relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Arizona Republican spent New Year’s Eve at a Ukrainian forward combat post. He was joined by fellow Senate Armed Services committee members Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Amy Klobuchar. McCain posted a picture with a Ukrainian commander on Twitter and wrote, “We stand with them in their fight against Putin’s aggression.” The Russian annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 led to U.S. and European sanctions against Moscow.

(San Francisco, CA) — Uber estimates it’s drivers delivered 15 million rides this New Year’s Eve holiday, three times as many as last year. The ride-hailing service operates in more than 450 cities and has partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to get revelers home safely. Prices spike during the post midnight rush but this year people can see how much a ride is going to cost up front. The company faced backlash in the past when people looking for a ride ended up stuck paying exorbitant prices.

(Tampa, FL) — Alabama and Clemson will meet in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game for the second year in a row. The top-ranked Crimson Tide slipped past Washington, 24-7, in the Peach Bowl, while the third-ranked Tigers blanked Ohio State, 31-0, in the Fiesta Bowl. ‘Bama and Clemson met in last year’s title game, with the Tide prevailing 45-40. This year’s title game kicks off on Monday, January 9th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

(Pasadena, CA) — The actor who brought Father John Mulcahy to the small screen on “M*A*S*H” is dead at 84. The family of William Christopher says the actor passed away on New Year’s Eve from cancer in his Pasadena, California home. Christopher’s acting resume included work on “Gomer Pyle,U.S.M.C.” and “The Andy Griffith Show.” His “M*A*S*H” costar, Wayne Rodgers, died on the same exact day last year.
