(Chicago, IL) — U.S. Senator Mark Kirk is reflecting as he prepares to leave office that the Republican Party has changed and now has no place for what he calls the “moderate middle.” The “Chicago Tribune” reports Kirk says that the party now reflects Donald Trump, and that the centrist establishment Kirk represented has been marginalized. Still, Kirk sees hope for Illinois politics and calls the social tolerance of the Democrats and the fiscal conservatism of Republicans the necessary balance to move forward. Kirk lost his reelection bid to Democrat Tammy Duckworth.
