There will be just one contested race for the City of Vandalia in the April 4th Consolidated Election. The filing period officially ended on Monday. Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman had filed his paperwork to run for a 5th term, and he is unopposed for re-election. Gottman is already the longest serving Mayor in the City’s history. Peggy Bowen filed to run for a 6th term as City Clerk and Bowen will run for re-election unopposed. In Ward One, where Jerry Swarm had earlier stated he would not run for another term, there will be a contested race between Joseph W. Crawford and Steven M. Barker for the open seat. In Ward two, it looked as if there would be a contested race—but that will not be the case. Dorothy Crawford had filed her paperwork to run for re-election and it looked like she would be challenged by Stacia Fields. But, that will not happen as City Clerk Peggy Bowen said Fields did not meet the residency requirements and withdrew from the race. Bowen said Fields would have needed to live in Ward two for at least one year and she did meet that requirement. So, Crawford will run for re-election unopposed. In Wards three and four, both Mike Hobler and Andy Lester an unopposed for re-election. And, also in Ward four, Joel Rebbe is unopposed to run for the 2 years remaining on the term he was appointed to.
