The Vandalia City Council came down to the wire but did approve the annual tax levy for the city during Monday night’s council meeting. During the December 5th meeting, the council was presented numbers by Dale Timmerman but did not take action as numbers had not been received yet from the Department of Insurance. On Monday night, Timmerman explained that those numbers had finally been received on Friday. With those numbers received an Option B of a levy amount totaling 4.88% was presented to go along with the previous possible levy amount of 21.85% that was based on the figures from the police pension fund plan ‘s actuary as that fund would be the only one seeing an increase. A hearing on the matter was held prior to the full city council meeting and a recommendation to pass Option B was voiced. A motion was then made during the actual council meeting to approved Option B with the motion passing by a vote of 7-1 with alderman B. John Clark casting the lone no vote.
