Lifelong Fayette County resident Gene Schwarm will forever be honored as his portrait will be displayed in the large court room in Fayette County. Several judges were on hand to honor Judge Schwarm, who recently retired as the Presiding Justice of the 5th District Appellate Court. And, before that, Judge Schwarm served for 20 years the Resident Judge in Fayette County, spending 13 of those years as the Chief Judge of the 4th Judicial Circuit and spending 7 of those years as the Chair of all the Chief Judges in the state of Illinois. Judge Michael McHaney, who succeeded Judge Schwarm as the 4th Judicial Circuit’s Chief Judge, says Judge Schwarm is the most revered Chief Judge in the history of the Circuit.
Judge Schwarm says it is certainly a very special honored to be recognized like this in Fayette County.
Among those to speak at the ceremony was Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Lloyd Karmeier. We will have much more on the ceremony coming up on Monday during NewsCenter.
