The former Public Aid building at the corner of 3rd and Johnson Streets in Vandalia is now officially known as the Kirby Building following a special ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon. The building is now serving as the new home of the 6:35 food pantry and the Vandalia Association of Churches. During the ceremony, Pantry Director Staci Carroll took time to thank John Kirby of Effingham for his donation of the building.
Carroll also explaining to those on hand that the renovation work done on the building and the pantry’s work on Thursday nights is all done by donations and volunteers.
The ceremony also included comments from Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman as well as an invocation by Unity Baptist Church Pastor Robert Weaver and closing remarks and blessing by Crown Point Church Pastor Pete Leduc.
