Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and the IRS are warning consumers about phone and tax scams that are currently circulating. Attorney General Madigan says the IRS phone scam is becoming more prevalent. That’s where a con artist tries to get you to reveal private information by saying you owe money or are due a refund from the federal government.
Additionally, the IRS has seen cases where you’re sent a fake tax bill via email or letter saying you owe money related to the Affordable Care Act.
