A special ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon as the former Public Aid building at the corner of Johnson and 3rd Streets in Vandalia was dedicated as the new home of the 6:35 food pantry and the Vandalia Association of Churches. After outgrowing its location in a city-owned building located near the Vandalia City Garage, the pantry was able to make a move to its new location after the building was donated by John Kirby of Effingham. During the ribbon cutting, Pastor John Glennon of Parkview Free Methodist Church thanked Mr. Kirby for his gracious donation.
Glennon also announced that the building would now be named in Mr. Kirby’s honor.
Also during the ceremony, Staci Carroll, who was a driving force behind the move and project also spoke on the project. And we will hear from Carroll tomorrow on Newscenter.
