The latest meeting between legislative leaders and Governor Bruce Rauner focused on the budget, but no deals appear imminent. House Speaker Michael Madigan came out of the meeting, saying he wants working groups to discuss things like education, pensions, and worker’s compensation reform. He again criticized Governor Rauner for tying these issues to the state budget.
House Minority Leader Jim Durkin says with the current budget set to expire at the end of the month, the Democrats appear to be stalling.
The group is scheduled to meet again on Thursday.
