(Springfield, IL) — Illinois State Police are noting a decrease in motorist deaths on Thanksgiving this year. Three people died in crashes during the holiday period, which is a decrease of more than 80-percent compared to last year. ISP officials credit beefed-up enforcement and focusing on speeders, drunk drivers, distracted drivers and people not wearing seat belts. There were 381 traffic crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday. The period included 120 DUI arrests, 37-hundred speeding tickets and 569 seat belt violations.
