The Lady Vandals are now 0-2 at home this season after falling to Gillespie 55-53 on Thursday night. After getting out to and early 5-0 lead the Lady Vandals gave up that lead late in the 1st quarter and would not regain the lead till midway through the fourth. After tying the game at 46-46 the Lady Vandals took a 50-48 lead but that would be short lived. With Gillespie up 53-50, Madison Klanke would hit a three for Vandalia to tie it up at 53-53. The Lady Vandals had a chance to pull ahead but two missed free throws and a Gillespie layup with about 5 seconds remaining put the Lady Vandals down 55-53 which is how the game would end after the Lady Vandals could not turn an inbounds pass at 1.2 seconds remaining into a shot before the final buzzer sounded. And after the game, Lady Vandals Coach Michelle McNary said missed layups and missed free throws piled up for them in the game.
Klanke led the Lady Vandals in scoring in the game with 21 points. The Lady Vandals will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Piasa Southwestern for 1pm matchup.
