
Donald L. Verdeyen, 63, of Altamont, died unexpectedly in the early morning of Saturday, November 5, 2016 in rural Effingham.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2016 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont with Fr. Marek Kasperczuk officiating. Burial will follow at St. Clare Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Donald Lee Verdeyen was born on Wednesday, February 18, 1953 in Vandalia, IL to Floyd and Clara (Vogel) Verdeyen and grew up on the family farm where the values and principles of hard work were instilled and he humbly carried with him throughout his life. He married Judith I. Marlow on March 16, 1974 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Elmo and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2010. He was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont. He was currently a security guard with Menard’s in Effingham and formerly employed with Bales Unlimited in Shumway.
Don is survived by: his children; sons, Joshua Verdeyen of Altamont and Aaron Verdeyen and his wife Shannon of Toledo; daughters, Rebecca Black and her husband Tom of West Terre Haute, IN and Bettina Reinwald and her husband Mike of Lonedell, MO; brothers, Robert Verdeyen of Fort Myers, FL, Steve Verdeyen of New Baden, IL and David Verdeyen and his wife Eva of Bedford, IN; sister, Linda Will and her husband Rich of Montrose; grandchildren, T.J., Cristen, Alex, Sarina, Dawson, Evan and Corbin; and great grandchildren, Logan, Mason, Addison, Bellah, Chloey, and Shiloh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son, Matthew Verdeyen.
