(Cannon Ball, ND) — Protesters in North Dakota continue trying to stop a pipeline that could eventually stretch to Illinois. They expected a confrontation with police today. Approximately two-hundred demonstrators are ignoring a deadline and refusing to leave private land where work on the Dakota Access oil pipeline is set to begin. Members of the Standing Rock Sioux and their supporters say the path of the pipeline would harm cultural sites and drinking water for their tribe. The pipeline would cut through four states and eventually terminate in Illinois, running into Fayette County as it makes it’s way to the Patoka Tank Farm.
