(Springfield, IL) — A group that wants state transportation funds kept in a “lockbox” is spending two-and-a-half-million-dollars to win voter support for the idea. Figures provided by the Center for Public Integrity show that the business, labor and construction industry group called Citizens to Protect Transportation Funding has used the money to air about 13-hundred TV ads during this election cycle. An amendment on the November 8th ballot would require all money raised through tolls, license fees and the gas tax be used only for transportation purposes.
