(Springfield, IL) — Two feral cats in Illinois and Missouri have been found with rabies, prompting a warning from state health officials for cat owners to have them vaccinated. The rabid felines were found over the past two weeks in Ogle County, Illinois, and Cass County, Missouri, and officials have stepped up their surveillance for the disease, which is rare in cats. Rabies is often fatal to pets and can be passed on to humans from a bite.
