(Chicago, IL) — Illinois is providing assistance to the federal government and the state of Florida by taking in about 75 children impacted by Hurricane Matthew. Governor Rauner’s office announced Friday the children are originally from Central America and were evacuated from Florida before the hurricane. Department of Children and Family Services Director George Sheldon said in a press release this is a great opportunity for Illinois to help in a time of crisis for children. The state is coordinating with the Heartland Alliance.
