(Thomson, IL) — A fifteen-year-old prison in Thomson is expected to finally be put to full use late next year as a federal maximum security facility. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says 14-million-dollars in federal funds have been spent to upgrade the prison that was built by the state in 2001, but never fully used. The federal government purchased it four years ago for one-hundred-65-million-dollars, and Durbin says Thomson will eventually hold 28-hundred inmates and employ an additional one-hundred workers.
