The Vandalia City Council will get an idea of the cost of taking water out to Vandalia Lake once an engineering report is prepared on the issue. During his report at Monday night’s council meeting, Mayor Rick Gottman asked the board that if they did not object, he felt that the city needed to move on finding out the cost of taking water out to Vandalia Lake after the city turned down easement requests from Fayette Water Company.
And Lake Committee Chairman Mike Hobler added to the discussion about extending water to the lake that it had been discussed at a lake committee meeting about possible annexation of the lake into the Vandalia city limits and getting lake residents feedback on the topic in the Spring.
And Mayor Gottman said he had talked to people who had asked him about the possibility as they have concerns about not insurance costs due to no fire protection as well as more police protection along with the coverage they receive from the sheriff’s office.
Following the discussion, with no objection from the council an engineering report will be worked up by the city’s engineers and Mayor Gottman will also talk to South Central Illinois Planning about grant work.
