Employees of the Vandalia Correctional Center raised money for a very good cause while also claiming hardware in the Inaugural Law Enforcement Torch Run Southern Illinois Plane Pull for Special Olympics Illinois. A plane pull has taken place for several years at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport but this year was the first for a competition to be held at Southern Illinois Airport in Carbondale. The Vandalia Correctional Center had two teams of employees compete in the event’s Public Safety division. The Monsta Squad team consisted of Tim Wilson, Bob Smith, Chad Belcher, Jordan Johnson, Jon Mann, Jason Mann, Tim Pasley and Justin Miller and was the winner of the Public Safety Division and also went on to win the overall Grand Champion trophy as well pulling the 737 aircraft 12 feet in 8.71 seconds. The second team, Monsta II Squad, pulled also but didn’t qualify. That team consisted of Tim Wilson, Bob Smith, Chad Belcher, Tim Pasley, Jon Mann, Jason Mann, Justin Lee and Logan Cage. Overall, the two teams raised $25,600 for Special Olympics Illinois.
