Mary Elisabeth Michel, 91, of Shelbyville, Illinois, formerly of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Shelbyville, Illinois.
Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Friedens United Church Of Christ, Farina, IL, with Dr. Jerry Gesell, officiating. Burial will follow at Farina Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Farina, IL. Memorials: Friedens United Church of Christ, Farina, IL. Mary Elisabeth was born in Johnston City, IL on September 6, 1925, to Lester W. and Helen F. (Vick) Fleming. She married Avon Louis Michel on November 21, 1942. She graduated from Missouri Baptist School of Nursing in St Louis MO. She worked as a registered nurse for the State of Missouri at the St Louis State School and Hospital in Bellefontaine Neighbors, MO. Mary Elisabeth was previously a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ferguson, Mo and currently a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina, IL. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid researcher of family genealogy.
She leaves two sons John Robert (Laura) Michel of Fairbanks, Alaska; Bruce Alan (Judy) Michel of Port Richey, Florida and one daughter Barbara Jean (Frank) Ferracane, of Forsyth, IL, and special daughter Maria Schulten – Suttorp of the Netherlands: daughter in-law, Kay Michel of Nashville, TN: nine grandchildren: Matthew (Missy) Michel, Marcie (Wesley) Michel Mimbs; Travis Michel, Scott (Adrienne) Michel, Britney Michel, Lauren (Ryan) Ferracane Fleming, Jody (Matthew) Ferracane Travis, Alexis Ferracane, Tony Ferracane; and 8 great grandchildren: Luke and Logan Michel, Mya and Max Mimbs, Delaney Michel, Ava and Liam Fleming, Crosby Travis. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Patricia Davis, Martha Pankey, husband Avon Louis Michel and one son Steve Douglas Michel.
