(Springfield, IL) — The head of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services isn’t shying away from a new audit that shows foster children in the state are being kept in hospitals or shelters because there’s no place else to put them. “The Chicago Tribune” reports one child stayed in a shelter for almost an entire year, despite a judge’s order for the child to stay no more than a month. DCFS Director George Sheldon says placing foster children is “one of the most intractable issues we have been dealing with.”
