Two St. Elmo residents were flown to Springfield area hospitals following a head on collision on Wednesday in Fayette County. The accident occurred on U.S. Route 40, just east of the I-70 overpass at the Brownstown exit. Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Carter reports that a vehicle driven by 46 year old Theresa Kollman of Beecher City was westbound on Route 40 and went to pass a slower moving vehicle in a no passing zone. Deputy Carter says Kollman’s vehicle then struck an eastbound vehicle head on, with both vehicles then ending up on the south side of the roadway. Both the driver of the second vehicle, 84 year old JoAnne Owen of St. Elmo and her husband, Robert Owen, were air lifted to Springfield area hospitals for treatment of injuries. Both Kollman and a passenger, Jerry Kollman, were treated and released at Fayette County Hospital. The accident remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
