Governor Bruce Rauner is signing a package of bills to help further reform the state’s criminal justice system. One of the new laws lets kids who were arrested but not charged with a crime immediately apply for expungement. Previously they had to wait until they turned 18. Governor Rauner says another law reduces probation periods for young offenders if appropriate.
Other bills limit the per minute rates for inmate phone calls and require that an attorney be present when a child younger than 15 is questioned by police.
