A 33 year old Vandalia man was arrested following an incident on Sunday evening in Vandalia that involved officers from around the region, including a SWAT Team. Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray says he was advised around 6:30 pm on Sunday evening that the individual, 33 year old Randy J. Bone of Vandalia, was in the residence on South Lake Street in Vandalia and was allegedly armed. Chief Ray says that Troopers from the Illinois State Police, Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith and Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Chief Ray and several officers from the VPD responded. Chief Ray says, after multiple attempts to contact the individual with no response, the ILEAS Regional SWAT Team was activated and a search warrant for the residence was issued. Chief Ray says the SWAT Team was able to utilize tactics to remove Bone from the residence and assistance was also provided by the Vandalia Fire Department and Fayette County Hospital ambulance. 33 year old Randy J. Bone of Vandalia was arrested on pending charges of Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery and Theft. Bone remains in the Fayette County Jail. Chief Ray says Bone was taken into custody around 11 pm—meaning the incident lasted for about 5 hours.
