(Philadelphia, PA) — Maikel Franco singled in the go-ahead run as the Phillies topped the Cardinals, 4-2, in Philadelphia. Jeremy Hellickson tossed seven innings of two-run ball to pick up the win, while Jeanmar Gomez earned the save for Philly. Aaron Altherr and Cesar Hernandez each belted solo home runs for the Phils. Jeremy Hazelbaker’s two-run homer was all the offense St. Louis could muster. Luke Weaver gave up nine hits and three runs to take the loss. The Cards’ had their five-game win streak snapped.
(Denver, CO) — Kris Bryant collected a pair of hits, including a three-run homer, to help power the Cubs past the Rockies, 9-2, at Coors Field. Bryant drove in four, and Miguel Montero added a trio of hits and RBIs. Trevor Cahill picked up the win in relief of Mike Montgomery for Chicago, which has won five-of-six. Colorado’s Jeff Hoffman took the loss in his major league debut, allowing six earned runs over four innings. Nick Hundley homered in defeat. The Rockies three game win streak is now over.
