(Washington, DC) — Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is weighing in on rate changes being proposed by Blue Cross Blue Shield in Illinois. The insurance company proposed premium increases of as much as 44-percent for some policyholder plans in 2017. In a statement earlier this month, Durbin says he trusts Illinois will hold Blue Cross to an “honest standard which requires reform of their practices reflecting the new health care marketplace.” Durbin says he hopes Blue Cross is taking seriously recommendations by the Department of Health and Human Services that the insurance company could be more competitive, reduce costs and maintain quality care in Illinois.
