(Springfield, IL) — Things are back to normal at the Illinois State Fair after heavy rainfall shut things down Friday night. An estimated five-plus inches of rain fell in about two hours at the fairgrounds, forcing almost 80 campers to evacuate when many vehicles became submerged. There were no injuries to people or livestock. The Friday grandstand entertainment of Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo and Melissa Etheridge was cancelled, with refunds being offered by the state fair; harness racing was also nixed.
