(St. Louis, MO) — Jaime Garcia got the job done on the mound and at the plate as the Cardinals blanked the Braves, 1-0, at Busch Stadium. Garcia struck out 11 over eight innings of three-hit ball. He also drove in the lone run of the game with an RBI single in the second inning. Seung Hwan Oh secured the win to earn his ninth save of the season. Atlanta’s Joel De La Cruz took the loss, allowing one run on two hits while walking five. The Braves had won two straight.
(Chicago, IL) — Dexter Fowler and Jorge Soler homered in the first inning as the Cubs rocked the A’s 7-2 in Oakland. Soler’s three-run shot capped the frame. Javier Baez drilled a two-run double in Chicago’s fifth straight win. Jon Lester struck out eight over seven innings to pick up his 12th win. Brett Eibner went long in first game as an Athletic after being acquired from Kansas City last week. Dillon Overton gave up nine hits and seven runs over three innings to take the loss. Oakland has dropped six of their past seven.
