At 61 year old Maine woman was injured in an accident involving two semis earlier today on Interstate 70, just west of Vandalia. The accident occurred around 11:45 this morning on I-70 westbound near mile post 60—just one mile west of the west Vandalia exit. Illinois State Police reports say that a semi-truck tractor operated by 61 year old Elizabeth R. Snowdale of Bowdoinham, Maine and a semi-truck tractor operated by 52 year old Archie McRae of Anderson, South Carolina were both traveling westbound on I-70 when State Police say McRae’s vehicle slowed due to traffic. State Police reports say Snowdale failed to slow down, swerved to the left striking the rear driver’s side quarter panel of McRae’s trailer, then went off the roadway to the left and came to rest on its side in the median. Snowdale was transported to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Snowdale was also ticketed for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
