(Kansas City, MO) — Eric Hosmer hit a two-run double during a four-run second inning as the Royals beat the Cardinals 6-2 in the opener of a four-game home-and-home series at Kauffman Stadium. Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer in the first for the Cards, who have lost three of four since a three-game sweep of the Cubs in Chicago. Adam Wainwright allowed six earned runs in five frames as he fell to 6-and-5.

(Cincinnati, OH) — Kris Bryant became the youngest player in team history to homer three times in a game in the Cubs’ 11-8 win over the Reds. The 24-year-old Bryant finished 5-for-5 with four runs, six RBI and a franchise-record 16 total bases. Jake Arrieta also hit a solo homer and improved to 12-and-2 despite allowing five runs in five innings. The second of the three-game series is tonight.
