(Seattle, WA) — The Mariners jumped out to a five-run lead early but had to hold on late in a 5-4 win over the Cardinals at Safeco Field. Dae-Ho Lee knocked home a pair of runs in the first to get things started. Leonys Martin collected three hits for Seattle, which got back over .500 at 38-and-37. Nathan Karns lasted five innings on the mound to get the win. St. Louis closed the gap in the fifth with a three-run homer from Aledmys Diaz but wouldn’t get any closer. Mike Leake gave up all five runs in the loss.
(Miami, FL) — Justin Bour and Giancarlo Stanton each plated three runs as the Marlins downed the Cubs, 9-6, in Miami. Bour knocked in a two-run homer as the Fish took a two-one series lead with the finale coming Sunday. Paul Clemens tossed five innings of four-run ball for the win, and A.J. Ramos notched his 24th save. John Lackey gave up seven runs to take the loss for Chicago. Addison Russell clocked a three-run homer and Miguel Montero added a solo shot in the loss.
