A Columbus, Ohio man was fatally injured in a 3 vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Fayette County on Thursday evening. The accident occurred at the 69 mile marker—one mile east of Brownstown exit—on the east bound side. And, the man killed in the crash was identified by Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen as 59 year old David Duke of Columbus, Ohio. In Bowen’s report, it states that Duke was stopped in traffic when he was struck from behind by a Semi-Tractor Trailer. There had been reports earlier in the day of traffic being at a near standstill in that area due to the construction from Brownstown to St. Elmo on Interstate 70 in the east bound lanes. Bowen says that Duke was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:41 pm. The crash remains under investigation by the Fayette County Coroner’s office and the Illinois State Police. An autopsy has been scheduled at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham.
