(Washington, DC) — The US Supreme Court is rejecting a ten-billion-dollar court decision against tobacco giant Philip Morris that originated in Madison County. About one-million smokers were awarded the money in 2003 after claiming the company used fraudulent terms to describe their cigarettes including “light” and “low tar”. The verdict was reversed by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2005, only to be later reinstated by an appellate court. The judgment was eventually denied by the State Supreme Court last year.
