(St. Louis, MO) — The Rangers rallied with four runs in the final two frames to edge the Cardinals 4-3 at Busch Stadium. Texas scored on a wild pitch and an error in the eighth. A bases loaded walk to Shin-Soo Choo tied the game in the ninth before Ian Desmond’s sacrifice fly scored the winning run. Shawn Tolleson picked up his first win of the season for Texas. St. Louis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with RBI singles from Yadier Molina, Kolten Wong and Stephen Piscotty. Trevor Rosenthal took the loss for the Cardinals, who have dropped four straight.
(Chicago, IL) — David Ross launched a solo homer in the sixth inning to put the Cubs on top for good in a 4-3 win over the Pirates at Wrigley Field. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant also went deep for Chicago, which improved to a major-league best 46-and-20. Jon Lester tossed six strong innings on the mound to get the win. Pittsburgh was paced at the plate by a couple of hits from Jordy Mercer, including a home run in the first inning to lead off the game. Jonathon Niese allowed all four runs in five-and-a-third frames for the Bucs, who suffered their ninth loss in 10 games.
