(St. Louis, MO) — Rougned Odor homered in the fifth to give Cole Hamels all the offense he would need as the Rangers squeaked out a 1-0 win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Hamels allowed just three hits in seven-and-two-thirds scoreless innings to help Texas win it’s fourth game in-a-row. Sam Dyson tossed the final frame to pick up the save. St. Louis wasted a solid performance from Michael Wacha, who took the loss despite lasting into the eighth inning. The Cards have dropped three straight games.
(Chicago, IL) — Jake Arrieta threw six innings of scoreless two-hit ball as the Chicago Cubs shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 from Wrigley Field. Arrieta struck out 11 en route to improving to 11-and-1. Matt Szczur hit a two-run homer, and Albert Almora Junior collected three hits in the victory. Francisco Liriano gave up four runs on six hits and walked five batters to fall to 4-and-7. The Bucs’ offense managed just three hits, while dipping one-game under five-hundred at 33-and-34.
