(Pittsburgh, PA) — Matt Holliday hammered a three-run shot in the fifth inning to help the Cardinals clip the Pirates, 5-1, at PNC Park. St. Louis broke out for four runs in the frame to grab its sixth win in seven games. Carlos Martinez pitched into the ninth inning to earn the victory before Trevor Rosenthal recorded the final two out for the save. Pittsburgh broke up the shutout in the seventh with a sac-fly from Josh Harrison. Francisco Liriano suffered the loss as the Bucs dropped their fourth straight game.
(Atlanta, GA) — The Cubs hit four home runs en route to an 8-2 win over the Braves at Turner Field. Jason Heyward, Anthony Rizzo, Miguel Montero, and Kris Bryant all went deep for Chicago, which has won two of three. The Cubs have the best record in the majors at 42-and-18. Jake Arrieta earned his league leading 10th win of the season, allowing two runs over seven innings. Atlanta could only muster five hits off Cubs’ pitchers. Adonis Garcia and Ender Inciarte drove in a run apiece for the Braves, who ended a two-game winning streak. Matt Wisler dropped to 2-and-7 with the loss.
