(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Cardinals reeled off six runs in the top of the 12th inning as they topped the Pirates, 9-3 in Pittsburgh. Adam Wainwright drilled the tie-breaking two-run double to begin the rally. Brandon Moss capped it with a two-run dinger. Jon Broxton picked up the relief win for the Cards. Pirates starter Gerrit Cole left after two-plus innings due to tricep tightness. Juan Nicasio took the loss for Pittsburgh after giving up all six runs in the 12th inning.
(Atlanta, GA) — Bud Norris pitched seven innings of one-run ball as the Braves downed the Cubs, 5-1, at Turner Field. Adonis Garcia and Tyler Flowers each had solo home runs for Atlanta, which was won two straight after losing six in a row. Chicago’s Dexter Fowler drove in the lone run for the Cubs. Jason Hammel took the loss, allowing three runs in less than six innings. Former Brave Jason Heyward went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his return to Atlanta. The Cubs have lost three of five.
