(Chicago, IL) — Figures from the state board of education show that more schools are cutting back on physical education. The “Chicago Tribune” reports that nearly 12-hundred Illinois schools have been cutting the number of days of gym, many claiming they don’t have the facilities or staff to meet the state requirement of five days of phys ed a week. Only 60-percent of the 31-hundred schools reporting said they have gym every day, but the board says there are no plans to punish schools who cut gym classes.
