Injured shortstop Jhonny Peralta is expected to be activated off the disabled list, but will instead play third base. Third baseman Matt Carpenter will shift over to second base, where he played earlier in his career.

(Cincinnati, OH) — Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong is in the minors. He’s been optioned to Triple-A Memphis to make room on the roster for the return of Jhonny Peralta. The 25-year-old Wong is batting .222 in 49 games this season. He signed a five-year, 25-million-dollar extension this spring.

(Philadelphia, PA) — Jon Lester fired eight shutout innings and the Cubs held on for a 6-4 win over the Phillies. Lester scattered four hits while striking out nine and walking none to improve to 7-and-3. Hector Rondon earned his 11th save. Jason Heyward launched a two-run homer to help Chicago move to 40-and-16. The second of the three-game series is tonight.
