(St. Louis, MO) — The Cardinals climbed out of a four-run hole to rally past the Giants, 7-4 in St. Louis. The Cards scored four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game before Stephen Piscotty drilled the go-ahead homer in the sixth. Matt Adams and Brandon Moss had solo shots, and Aledmys Diaz nailed a three-run dinger for St. Louis. Tyler Lyons picked up the win. Jeff Samardzija gave up nine hits and six runs to take the loss. Brandon Crawford had two hits and two runs for the Giants, who fell to 35-and-23. The rubber match is Sunday.
(Chicago, IL) — Jason Hammel threw seven strong innings and plated the go-ahead runs as the Cubs downed the Diamondbacks, 5-3, at Wrigley Field. Hammel gave up two runs over seven frames for his seventh win and drilled a two-run single put Chicago up for good in the fourth. Dexter Fowler and Anthony Rizzo belted solo shots in the win. The Cubs have won 10 of their past 11 games. Jake Lamb hit a two-run shot for Arizona and Yasmany Tomas added a solo homer. Edwin Escobar didn’t make it out of the fourth inning as the D-backs fell to 24-and-34.
