(Chicago, IL) — Twenty-one state lawmakers are asking Illinois Auditor General Frank Mautino to voluntarily take an unpaid leave of absence while an investigation into alleged irregular campaign expenditures and reporting procedures dating back to his time in the Illinois House of Representatives is active. The legislators are frustrated with Mautino’s lack of a response to questions raised in the investigations and don’t believe he can do his job effectively while they’re happening. Mautino recently confirmed he’s under federal investigation for alleged inappropriate campaign fund activities.
