(Washington, DC) — Stephen Piscotty’s first career grand slam lifted the Cardinals past the Nationals, 6-2 in DC. The dinger was the sixth of the year for Piscotty. Greg Garcia added a solo shot as the Cards tied the four-game set at one game each. Jaime Garcia tossed seven innings of two-run ball to get his fourth win. Danny Espinosa hammered a solo shot for the Nats. Max Scherzer gave up five runs over seven innings to take the loss. Washington has alternated wins and losses for the past eight games.
(Chicago, IL) — David Ross belted a three-run homer, the 100th of his career, to help power the Cubs to a 6-2 win over the Phillies at rainy Wrigley Field. Jorge Soler and Kris Bryant also homered as Chicago took the opener of the three-game set. The game was twice interrupted by rain. Jon Lester pitched six-and-a-third innings of two-run ball to get the win and move to 5-and-3. Adam Morgan surrendered all six runs in four frames to fall to 1-and-3. Maikel Franco plated both runs for Philadelphia with a sac-fly in the third and an infield single in the seventh. The Phillies have lost five-of-seven.
