(Springfield, IL) — The State Board of Elections is raising red flags about a bill making its way through the General Assembly to allow automatic voting registration. The bill heading to the House after passage in the Senate would automatically sign up anyone who visits a Secretary of State’s office. The elections board says it’s opposed because it doesn’t have a program in place now, and setting one up by September 1st deadline in the law would cost millions of dollars.
