An effort to set up automatic voter registration in Illinois is making progress in the state legislature. The bill passed by the Senate signs people up to vote when they visit state facilities such as the Secretary of State’s office, although you’d have the option of opting out of the automatic registration. State Senator Andy Manar says this streamlines the now duplicated process, saves the state money, and gets more people involved in the electoral process.
Opponents worry about voter fraud. The bill is now in the Illinois House for a vote.
