The Vandalia High School girls track team had a very successful run through the preliminary round of the IHSA Class 1A State Track Meet Thursday afternoon. Senior Jalea Paslay, the first to compete for the Lady Vandals and placed fourth in her heat of the 800m Run with a time of 2:23.34 to advance to Saturday’s Finals. The 4×200 relay team of Anna Miller, Madeline Cade, Katie Tarkington and Madison Klanke then turned in a 3rd place finish in their heat with a time of 1:47.04 which was good enough to qualify for Finals and also set a new school record, surpassing the group’s record set at Sectionals by more than three seconds. Anna Miller then capped off the day by finishing 2nd in her heat with a time of :46.46 which again set the school record already previously set and broken several times by Miller this year. The State Finals will be held Saturday at O’Brien Stadium at Eastern Illinois University. Paslay will compete in the 800 at 1:55pm. The 4×200 relay will run Finals at 2:25pm and Miller will compete in the 300-Intermediate Hurdle Finals at 3:15pm.
